  • Question: What do you consider of the one who allows playacting in the mosque for Da’wah?
Shaykh al-Fawzân: Playacting is not allowed, not in the mosque nor anywhere else. It does not belong to the deeds of the Muslims. We have received it from abroad and from the acts of others. Da’wah is not done by way of playacting. Da’wah is done by way of the Qur’ân and Sunnah and enticement and warnings. That is how the prophet (sallâ Allâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and the callers after him did it. Did the messenger (sallâ Allâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) playact? Did the companions playact? Did the scholars and the true callers of the Ummah playact?

It is an absurd action. It should not be associated with Da’wah. It is a stupidity and Da’wah does not accept stupidities. Da’wah should be in accordance with the Qur’ân and Sunnah, evidence from the Qur’ân and Sunnah and a correct role model and action. One who calls to the religion of Allâh has to be a role model. He should be the first one who does good deeds. He should do that which he orders and avoid that which he forbids:

أَتَأْمُرُونَ النَّاسَ بِالْبِرِّ وَتَنسَوْنَ أَنفُسَكُمْ وَأَنتُمْ تَتْلُونَ الْكِتَابَ أَفَلاَ تَعْقِلُونَ
“Do you order righteousness of the people and forget yourselves while you recite the Scripture? Then will you not reason?”
(The Qur’ân 2:44, interpretation of the meaning)

That is how Da’wah is done, not with playacting, laughs and the like.
